The Hanwha QCELLS company actually started in Thalheim, Germany in 1999. As many know – they are now a global solar leader, producing arguably some of the best solar PV panels in the world. There was a “rocky financial road” for them though, and in 2012, they were bought by The Hanwha Group, a large South Korean chemical producer.
Operations were moved to Seoul, South Korea. Although they retain an engineering department in Germany, they have several research facilities globally. Presently, the firm now operates manufacturing plants around the world; in Malaysia, South Korea, China and also the USA. Their products have been received well in the Australian market where the they have shown exceptional performance in harsh climatic conditions.
In their product line up, there are the Q. PEAK DUO ML-G9 and ML-G10 which are ideal for both residential and commercial applications. For solar farms there is the Q. PEAK DUO XL range. Presently, QCELLS are producing vast numbers of solar panels, and in 2021 they shipped over 9GW of panels globally. They offer a 15 year or a 25 year product warranty on their range of panel products. As could be expected, they are a Tier 1 manufacturer, and have an Australian office based in Sydney.
Q CELLS Q-PEAK DUO ML-G9 and G10
Residential Applications
The G9 series is the most widely used QCELLS panel on Australian homes. These panels range from in output from 375W up to 395W. In recent times, the G10 series has been released as well. The range of these next-level panels is from 400W up to 415W. They are equipped with QCELLS Zcell technology, that feature a 12 multi-busbars, and a half-cut design that has a top end efficiency of 21.4%
Both the QCELLS G9+ and G10+ series of panels possess the 12 busbar design and carry a 25 year panel product warranty and performance guarantee. Another strong feature is the high level of engineering that has enhanced the aluminium panel frame design. This gives the panel a 5400 Pa snow load, and a 4000 Pa wind loading capacity.
Q.PEAK DUO-G9 and the G-10 both have next generation, inter-cell connection technology that features a robust 12 round wire design that ensures lower internal electrical resistance and less shading that are caused by traditional connectors usually placed at the front of the panel.
Q-PEAK DUO XL-G9 G10 G11
QCELLS Commercial Applications
The “extra-large” Q.Peak DUO XL ,G9, G10 and G11 range of panels all feature the same next level mono PERC half-cut cells, that integrate the 12 busbars (12BB) design and also have an increased 132 cell and 156 cell layout. They are engineered for commercial and large-scale utility situations. The increased size of these panels raise efficiency right up to 21.7%. The range of available output ratings is between 490W and in the G10 up to 490W, with 2.4 metre long G11 achieving a mighty 590W.
How does QCELL Q. ANTUM technology produce higher power levels?
Firstly, the actual primary panel design features the Zcell inter-panel connection technology. Hanwha QCELLS introduced this innovative cell interconnection to the market, which eliminates gaps in the individual cell rows. This eliminates the spaces between individual rows of cells.
In essence, the properties of Q.ANTUM DUO Z Technology gives not only higher, more reliable output in actual use, but provides for a significant 86% performance guarantee up to and beyond 25 years of service. When looking at the bigger financial picture; this will result in lower costs and higher savings for the operator.
Another contributing quality that allows for a general lower cost to produce electricity, is the unique nano coating that each cell has. This coating acts like a ‘mirror’ within the cell to reflect sunlight back inside the cell, that was not previously captured and transformed to electrical energy. This gives the cell, and in fact the whole panel, a lift in overall panel efficiency.
