Longi Solar Panels
Longi Mono In Australia
Longi Solar Panels Are Not So New To Solar.
Many people think that Longi is a new company, but actually they have been around for a long time. They make solar panels and also silicon wafers and have been in business for 18 years. In fact one of our best sellers is the LR6-60PB 300 watt panels. They have the usual cover many have these days, a 10 year product and also a 25 year output guarantee.
Not Just Great But Also Fast.
Longi was the fastest growing solar maker in 2016 and also 2017. Fast growing, they had also 5GW of capacity and had produced 2.35 megawatts worth of panels. There was a slight downturn though in H1, 2017 whereas they had produced 11% more during H2, 2016. They missed their mark and in fact only made about 1.260 Gigawatts of panels, well short of expectations. Longi has bounced back and is now making so many Longi panels they have joined the “Silicon Module Super League”. In effect, this is the group of producers that make over 50% of the world's panels. Longi began making silicon wafers for other panel makers, but have now ramped up in their own right.
Longi Solar In Australia So It's The New Kid On The Block.
2014 was a turning point for Longi in effect they moved away from just making silicon for others. They bought Lerri an established panel maker and then started making their own. Lerri had been producing panels since 2007 and continued under that name until 2017 when the name changed to Longi. They have gone on strongly since and moved into more markets around the world, increasing their capacity too. Making solar panels in fact needs a lot of power. Funny thing, they are able to make panels due to low priced power, probably from Aussie coal? As well as the plants in China, they are also expanding with offices in the USA, Europe and Japan. Who knows maybe sometimes soon we will have one here too? They are also building a large 500 megawatt plant in India which should come on line early 2019.
At last Some Hot Monos.
They have also bought a factory in Malaysia that can make 500 megawatts of panels a year. This factory will make silicon ingots and then slice them into wafers for their own panels. As a matter of fact, Longi just makes mono panels, no poly at all. We could write an essay on the difference between mono and poly, but let’s just say that mono is better. Poly means many, mono means just one - so with solar, just one big silicon crystal is the way to go! These guys are in fact the world’s biggest producer of mono silicon ingots. Who has heard then of the "Czochralski process"? Because this is how they make their mono silicon, "baked to perfection" in very hot ovens. This is hot stuff - to clarify, up to around 1,420 degrees Celsius.
Gone Vertical Due To Integration.
As Longi makes all its own parts for its panels its known then as a "vertically integrated" firm. They are not the only panel maker that does this, but not many have this level of self sufficiency. Longi is also part of the "Top Runner Program" so as to boost the solar panel industry. Their panels going on Aussie roofs also have efficiency rates between 17.4% to 19% for the 60 cell models. This record of 22.43% efficiency didn't last long though and Trina Solar passed it a few days later.
In Conclusion, Yes We Like!
Many low priced Tier 1 panels have a power output assurance of about 80% when new at 25 years. However Longi warrants its panels for 83% of rated output and 84% applies on their PERC panels. Longi has been for many years an OEM producer but has made the move as a fully fledged panel maker. If offered these panels and they are affordable, then buy them, they are one of the best on today's market.
