Fronius Symo 3 - Phase
Maximum flexibility for the applications of tomorrowWith power categories ranging from 3.0 to 20.0 kW, the transformerless Fronius Symo is the three-phase inverter for systems of every size. The high system voltage, wide input voltage range and two MPP trackers ensure maximum flexibility in system design. The standard interface to the Internet via WLAN or Ethernet and the ease of integration of third-party components make the Fronius Symo one of the most communicative inverters on the market. With an integrated energy management function, the Fronius Symo provides a solution for optimising private consumption of self-generated solar power. The energy management function allows power to be directed to a specific electrical appliance fast-tracking your payback. Owing to the SuperFlex Design, the Fronius Symo is the perfect answer to irregularly shaped or multi-oriented roofs. The standard interface to the Internet via WLAN or Ethernet and the ease of integration of third-party components make the Fronius Symo one of the most communicative inverters on the market.
Fronius Smart Meter
a bi-directional meter which optimises self-consumption and records the household´s load curve
With the Fronius Smart Meter installed, you’ll get the consumption data added to your Solar.web portal. This means you’ll get a full breakdown of the amount of power you produce, how much you consume, the percentage going back to the grid and into your home. The Fronius Smart Meter is a breakthrough device for energy monitoring: not only does it enable you to get an exact dollar-saving figure from the Solar.web portal, but it also gives you the consumption information you need if you want to add batteries down the track, as you’ll know what size of battery you’ll need when the time is right. Thanks to highly accurate measurements and rapid communication via the Modbus RTU interface, dynamic feed-in control when feed-in limits are imposed is faster, and more accurate than with a standard S0 meter ("S-zero"). The Fronius Smart Meter together with Fronius Solar.web, presents a clear overview of power consumption within the home. In the Fronius Energy Package storage solution based on the Fronius Symo Hybrid, the Fronius Smart Meter provides perfectly coordinated management of the various energy flows and optimises overall energy management. The Fronius Smart Meter is ideally suited for use with the Fronius Symo, Fronius Symo Hybrid, Fronius Galvo, Fronius Primo, Fronius Eco inverters and the Fronius Datamanager 2.0.
Fronius Smart Meter Features:
• Fast and accurate dynamic feed-in control • Clear overview of power consumption in Fronius Solar.web • Optimised energy management with the Fronius Energy Package storage solution. • Apply relays to controlled loads such as hot water systems and pool pumps
Fronius Smart Meter Vs Hot Water TimerFor those purchasing or considering a Fronius inverter, this is a far better method of using any excess power than other third-party devices such as the SunnyMate and ImmerSUN solar diverters, which will cost a lot more to buy and install. As detailed below. How is it done? The Fronius Smart Meter can be set up so that when your inverter is potentially exporting power, it can automatically activate a relay so that you productively use that power to heat your hot water or activate another appliance like a swimming pool pump, instead. The Fronius “Solar Power Diverter” Solution:
1. Datamanager This is now a feature of many Fronius inverters. Once set up, it records and transmits your inverter’s production activity to Solarweb.com - the Fronius online monitoring site.
2. Fronius Smart Meter This is an external accessory developed by Fronius. Its main function is to measure export power, and monitor local household usage, but it also has the ability to use this information to engage switching devices to better utilise your solar production.
3. Appliance Relay With the data provided by the Datamanager and the Smart Meter, the inverter can then be programmed to trigger an appliance relay when your solar system is able to export power. It activates only when there is sufficient energy to divert to appliance loads, and is a far superior method of diverting your solar power than a timer, which will switch on even when there is no sun – potentially costing you more than if you heated your water on an off-peak tariff. A false economy! If you have it connected to your electric hot water system, in effect, what this does is turn it into a solar hot water system - a solar “battery”. This could be a very good solution for those wanting to install solar power and solar hot water. You can use your old existing electric tank (or buy a new one), the whole arrangement possibly costing a lot less than an on-roof solar hot water system or a heat pump. Worth considering. The cost of installing a Fronius Smart Meter with one or two appliance relays is significantly more than a simple hot water timer, but less than third-party ‘solar diverters’.
Solar Web - All-in-one internet portal
Fronius Solar Web - Free app for simple visualisation of PV system data
If you own a Fronius Symo or Primo inverter, you can use the Fronius Solar Web too. This allows you to check and also watch what's going on with your solar system. Once you have this set up you are going to be easily able to keep an eye on your solar. In fact you are able to do this on any computer or your smart phone from anywhere in the world. Many firms have similar web platforms, but once you work past the registration page, it becomes a smooth ride. In fact, we like it much better than most others.
Keep it simple or go for A "Smart Meter"
This is great, but in its basic form, it wont allow you to see what each appliance is using. To do better than that, you will need a "Smart Meter", but even this will not allow you much more. So the "Smart Meter" gives data on what the system has made. It shows export data to the Grid and also local use in the home, but that is all. Some other programs allow you to check each panel, but this can be a problem in itself. As at times there are 'false alarms' that can also be costly. So "keep it simple" and either just stay with the basic set up or opt for the "Smart Meter". The basic set up is enough for you to keep an eye on the system, but without any extra cost.
Most solar owners are very keen when a system is new, but this wanes after a few weeks. Most just take a look now and then, and then forget about it for another week. Learning how it works can also show up a few bugs - just be patient. So, if you want more info about the nifty Fronius Solar Web you can find it here: Fronius Australia website.
