As part of the expansion, they took on a plant in Malaysia and also built one in India. Both have a 500MW capacity. In fact, the plant in Malaysia makes silicon ingots, and creates wafers from these for Longi Solar panels. All Longi panels are mono crystal, they do not make poly panels at all. They use the "Czochralski process" to create their silicon ingots, and are also now the world’s biggest maker of these. The ingots take form in very hot kilns at about 1420°C. As like many other solar PV panel makers, Longi invests very heavily into R&D. It does appear then, that they have been putting their money into the right places.
In 2021, LONGi Green Energy Technology total R&D investments was 1.614 billion yuan and set of new world records with its latest cell technologies.
